Origin and historical facts about indoor rowing machines

The rowing machine is such a machine that gives an effect exactly like the rowing a boat without making you wet. We also get rowing machines for the indoor usage. In the year 1871 the founder of the New York Athletic club, William B. Curtis, invented the rowing machine that worked with the help of a flywheel and ratchet system.

The rowing machines were invented in the mid nineteen century and now they have undergone many re-modulations. The earlier rowing machines were operated with the help of linear pneumatic resistance technology. But they were not good enough to give the effect of the proper rowing machine. By the year 1950 many countries started using the rowing machines that were made up with large, heavy and solid iron wheels.

It also had a mechanical brake. They were not popular and the users discarded this as it was not at all comfortable. The rowing machine based on air resistance technology came into being in about the year 1980. The hydraulic machines were introduced in the year 1988.

Now a day we get many rowing machines that are all a mix up of all technologies of the rowing machines in the past. Now we get the hydraulic rowing machines, air resistance rowing machines, magnetic rowing machines and the water models. They all are functioned with the old theory of the indoor rowing machines.
